How to apply for a passport online



Step 1:  First, you need to register in Passport Seva Portal to create your User ID & Password. Click here to Register

Step 2:  After creating your User ID, please login here using your User ID & Password.

Step 3:  If you have never possessed a passport earlier, then you need to select "Apply for Fresh Passport". In case, if you are re-applying for passport for the reasons like Changes in your particulars /Lost/Validity Expired, you can select "Reissue of Passport ".

Step 4:  You have to fill the required details in the form and submit. Particulars which you are providing in the form will be printed in the passport. Therefore, please be careful in filling up the form and avoid any mistakes.
Scheduling an Appointment at a PSK/RPO
Appointments are given for a specific date and time.

In the Applicant homepage you will click "Manage Appointment" to schedule an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).

Click the "Print Application Receipt" to print the application receipt containing Appointment Number and Application Reference Number (ARN). You will need to carry a print of this along with all the documents.

Step 5:  After submitting your application form, click on the link "Manage Appointment" at Applicant Home page to book the appointment at PSK (Passport Seva Kendra) as per available slots. In case, if you are not able to get appointment for as per your preferred date, you can revisit the portal to check and take appointment again.

Step 6:  You can take printout of Application Reference Number (ARN).

step 7: You need to visit Passport Seva Kendra where appointment has been taken with Application Reference Number (ARN) and all required documents.

Documents Required for passport

Address proof(Any one of these - Ration card, Voter ID, Water bill, Electricity bill, Gas connection Bill, Income tax/Bank account Statement)
Proof of Date of Birth (Any one of these - Certificate from any Educational institute, Birth certificate)
If the DOB is after January 26th, 1989, Birth Certificates is must.only Birth Certificates(BC) issued by the Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth Certificate by the Registrar of Births is acceptable.

  • As your photo is scanned and printed on the passport,it should be high quality for reproduction and conform to International Civil Aviation organization specifications:

  • Photo size must be passport sized color photograph 2×2 dimension.

  • It must with white background and Recent photo, not more than 6 months.
  • Your photo may be rejected unless it shows you:
    1.facing forward and looking straight at the camera
    2.with a neutral expression and your mouth closed
    3.without anything covering the face
    4.in clear contrast to the background
    5.without a head covering (unless it's worn for religious or medical reasons)
    6.with eyes open, visible and free from reflection or glare from glasses
    7.with your eyes not covered by sunglasses, tinted glasses, glasses frames or hair 8.without any shadows in the picture
    9.For childs, if a child needs support means it should not cover in camera frame.

  • If you are married, to include spouse name in the passport submit original marriage certificate/marriage affidavit.

  • To get E C N R (Emigration Check Not Required)status in passport please provide any one of the following in original.
    1.10TH standard Certificate OR Degree Certificate OR Diploma Certificate
    2.Pan card and Proof of assessment of income tax and actual payment of income tax for last one year

  • Parent's passport copy, in case of minors (First and last page)
  • Note (For Document No. 1, 2, and 3): At least 2 bills are required - One bill should of be of last year and the other bill of current year.
  • Note (For Document No. 8): Only public limited companies can give address proof on company letter head along with seal. Computerized print-outs shall not be entertained.
  • Note (For Document No. 10): If any applicant submits only ration card as proof of address, it should be accompanied by one more proof of address out of the given categories. Time Duration:1 days
  • Fee Amount: Rs. 500
  • Annexure/ Affidavits: Normally not required, in case you not have marriage certificate / birth certificate it require.
  • Short Note:Old passport needed to apply for PCC.

Application fee for passport

Fresh Passport
  1. Within 1-7 days of the date of Application
    Rupees 1,500/- plus the passport fee of Rs.1000/-
  2. Within 8-14 days of the date of Application
    Rupees 1,000/- plus the passport fee of Rs.1000/-
Replacement of Passport (in lieu of Lost/Damage Passport)
  1. Within 1-7 days of the date of Application
    Rupees 2,500/- plus the duplicate passport fee of Rs.2500/-
  2. Within 8-14 days of the date of Application
    Duplicate passport fee Rs.2500/- and 1,500/- for Reissue
Re-issue cases after expiry of 10 years validity
  1. Within 3 working days of the date of application Rupees 1,500/- plus the passport fee of Rs.1000/-

Modes of Payment and Fees Passport Application

  • The fee to be paid for a passport varies depending on the age of the applicant, mode of application (online or not), whether it's a normal or a tatkal application, number of pages requested in the passport, etc. Because of the various combinations possible and because the fee may be changed without notice, the amount is not being mentioned here.

  • The fee amount can be easily deduced from the fee calculator link on the official website. This is on the left hand column under Passport Services.

  • The fee amount can be paid, as of this writing, in cash only at the various PSK's, and in case of applications at a DPC, by Demand Draft (DD) favouring "PAO-MEA", and payable at the City where the concerned RPO is located. DPC's may insist on the DD's to be from PSU banks only.

  • Change the Name in Passport

      (B) CHANGE OF NAME
    • Following marriage, remarriage or divorce:

      (a)A woman applying for change of name/surname in existing passport due to marriage must furnish:

      (i)Photocopy of the Husband's passport, if any, and
      (ii)An attested copy of marriage certificate issued by Registrar of Marriage OR an affidavit from the husband and wife along with a joint photograph, (Specimen at Annexure D).

      (b)Divorcees applying for change of name OR for deletion of spouse's name in existing passport must furnish

      (i)Certified copy of Divorce decree.
      (ii)Deed poll/sworn affidavit (ANNEXURE &aposE')

      (c)Re-married applicants applying for change of name/spouse's name must furnish:

      (i)Divorce deed/death certificate as the case may be in respect of first spouse, and
      (ii)Document as at (a) above relating to second marriage.

      In other circumstances for Name change,the applicant is male or female should furnish:

    • (i) Deed poll/sworn affidavit (ANNEXURE 'E'):
    • (ii) Paper cuttings of two leading daily newspapers in original (one daily newspaper should be of the area of applicant's permanent and present address or nearby area).
